Los Angeles, CA -
(CNS) Downtown business and neighborhood groups yesterday accused city leaders of failing the downtown community by not policing daily Occupy Los Angeles demonstrations in Pershing Square, which they say are ruining the park and threatening surrounding businesses.
Patti Berman, president of the downtown Los Angeles Neighborhood Council, pleaded with the members of the City Council's Budget and Finance Committee to do something to solve the problem.
Occupiers have taken to drawing on sidewalks and in the square with chalk as a main way of communicating protest messages in recent months. The chalk graffiti sparked a small riot during a Downtown L.A. Artwalk in July, when police in riot gear cracked down on the chalking protesters who were blocking streets.
