While keeping an eye on Isaac, this week's Tech Check presents a new mobile app from the American Red Cross that could help families safe and in touch during natural disasters.
It is called the Red Cross Hurricane app and it is available for Apple and Android devices. In the aftermath of a hurricane, it can be near to impossible to contact a loved one by phone.
The Red Cross app helps to send an "I'm safe" message through email or social media. The app will also push weather alerts to the device.
The app will also list evacuation shelters including ones which take pets.
It has a toolbox which will turn the smart phone into a flashlight or beacon with a flashing strobe. It also comes with an alarm which will help alert rescue crews if you are ever trapped.
It is a good app to have if a loved one is ever in a warning area of an approaching storm. It can provides plenty of information to keep you well informed so you can make critical, potentially lifesaving decisions during and after a storm.
