FDA expands warning on pet treats made in China

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

Pet owners, the FDA has expanded its warning about certain dog treats. The potential problem from chicken jerky treats that were made in China is broader than once thought.

The treats were limited to chicken jerky, strips and tenders, but now it includes the duck and sweet potato jerky treats.

The FDA reports that the Chinese have thrown up a stumbling block in the inspection of the treats.  Federal investigations will not agree to the conditions for inspection laid out by the Chinese, so the US has not yet inspected them on site.

So, the FDA has issued a warning about the treats, but hasn't issued any ban.  That means they're still on the market.

Dr. West Hamryka of Sugar Hill Animal Hospital had some guidelines on how to pick the right treat, and he had three treats from your home that you can give to your dog! You can give your dog raw carrots, raw green beans, or rice cakes!
