East Los Angeles, CA -
Police say at least two men kidnapped a Bank of America bank manager Tuesday night, then on Wednesday morning, they strapped a device to her waist, and around 8:30am they brought her back to the bank, told her she had a bomb strapped to her waist and sent her into the bank at South Atlantic Blvd and was ordered to go into the bank and take out money.
While inside the bank, the manager told employees what was happening, she took out the money, threw it at the robbers, then the robbers took off in what has been described as a white Kia with partial license plates 6HOR54.
Just before 10:00am, the device was removed from her, set outside and police surrounded it with sand bags and used a robotic device to detonate it. No one else around was hurt, including the bank manager. Capt. Mike Parker tells KTTV FOX 11 that the woman was told by the robbers the device was an explosive, and said a bomb squad rendered the device safe.
A press conference is scheduled in Huntington Park at 6:00pm Wednesday evening.
