Documentary about Detroit Firefighters premieres in Detroit.
SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) -
"BURN," a documentary about the city of Detroit and its firefighters will premiere on Friday, September 28 at 7 p.m. The screening will be held at the Fillmore Detroit.
This feature-length documentary centers around the crew of Engine Company 50, one of the busiest firehouses in America and is told through their eyes.
The film was produced by Apostle partners Denis Leary and Jim Serpico and directed by Tom Putnam and Detroit-native, Brenna Sanchez.
The film previously premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City, where it received the festival's Audience Award.
"After seeing the tremendous response the film has generated with audiences in other cities, I'm thrilled to finally be bringing BURN home to Detroit," said Sanchez.
The film was funded through grants and donations from individuals and corporations, including General Motors and Apple. A portion of the film's proceeds will be donated to The Leary Firefighter Foundation, to purchase equipment for the Detroit Fire Department.
The filmmakers hope the documentary will help raise the public's awareness to the work firefighters do, as well as the sacrifices they make, particularly in these times of severe budget cuts.
Following the screening, there will be a question and answer discussion with the directors, producers, and firefighters, who appeared in the film. This portion of the event will be hosted by the Detroit Free Press.
Additional screenings will be held in Detroit on September 29.
For more information or to get a ticket to the film screening, visit the official "BURN" website.
