FTC warns of bed bug, lice treatments

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

The Federal Trade Commission has a warning about new bed bug and lice treatments. Two companies are making big promises to eradicate one, or both of them. The feds says there is no proof either of them work.

We hear more about lice when the kids get back to school, and bed bugs have been in the headlines. They get into hotel mattresses, then they hitch hike a ride from your luggage to your home.

According to the FTC, two companies claim to kill these bugs without chemicals.  But the FTC says those claims are deceptive. Rest Easy says it kills and repels bed bugs "using natural oils and cedar." According to the FTC, they can't back that up. The company has settled with the government to stop making over-hyped claims.

The FTC says Best Yet promises to treat bed bugs and head lice using cedar oil.  Again, the government says that's deceptive.  They can't back it up. But in this case, the company hasn't backed down and they're going to court.

The I-Team has tried to contact Cedarcide, which makes Best Yet, but they have not responded.
