ATLANTA -

The Lingerie Football League is expanding into Atlanta, company officials announced on Tuesday.

The team, which doesn't have a name yet, will begin play in the 2013 season at the Gwinnett Center.

The league's website states that players compete on a 50-yard field. There are no field goals or punts. Standard uniforms consist of shoulder pads, elbow pads, knee pads, garters, bras, panties and helmets.

Several guys at Arena Tavern next door to Gwinnett Center told FOX 5's George Franco that they were thrilled the league is coming to town. But not everyone was tripping over their tongue.

"If you're real athletes I don't think you wear lingerie, the WNBA is huge and they don't wear lingerie when they play," said Britt Erler.

"I think it may say more about that they're getting the attention because of the way they're dressed, not necessarily because of their talents," said Sonya Moore.

But don't tell that to Alexandria Stone. She's made the cut as a linebacker for the Philadelphia Passion.

"I don't think it sends the wrong message at all. We're women, we want to play football and that's it," said Stone.

The 24-year-old says that includes full tackles, bumps, bruises and broken bones. She was Philadelphia-bound from her job as a bartender at Arena Tavern but now she's staying in Atlanta to try out for the new team.

"That was going to be a huge move for me, so I'm really excited about the new Atlanta team," said Stone.

Stone said that an LFL makes receives about $50,000 a year along with a modeling contract.

Ladies hoping to take part in the league take note: an open tryout will be announced soon. In the meantime, fans are encouraged to submit names for the team. Suggestions can be emailed to: LFLinAtlanta@LFLUS.com. The deadline to submit a name is Friday, October 19.

According to the company, Atlanta is the 12th city to host a team.

The season is scheduled to begin on Saturday, April 13, 2013. The Atlanta team will play in the Southeastern Division of the Eastern Conference with the Jacksonville Breeze and Omaha Heart, the LFL said in a press release.
