Let It Rip: Detroit police chief sex scandal

Posted: Updated:

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. -- Our "Let It Rip" panel discussed the sex scandal involving suspended Detroit Police Chief Ralph Godbee.

Godbee was suspended for 30 days Tuesday as allegations of an affair with subordinate officer Angelica Robinson came to light.

Mayor Dave Bing issued the following statement: "After learning of the allegations regarding Chief Ralph Godbee, I have placed him on a 30-day suspension pending a full and thorough investigation of this matter.  In the interim, Assistant Chief Chester Logan will assume the duties and responsibilities of police chief."

FOX 2's Charlie LeDuff reported that Robinson was upset Saturday night, believing Godbee, who was attending a police conference in San Diego, was with another woman.  She tweeted a photo that showed her with a 9 millimeter, department issued Glock in her mouth.  LeDuff was told that Godbee sent Detroit officers to check on Robinson and that they failed to inform a metro Detroit police agency about their actions.

Godbee, who filed for divorce in August, had little to say to reporters at Metro Airport as he returned from San Diego Wednesday evening.

Joining Huel Perkins and Charlie Langton on the panel to discuss this situation were Mildred Gaddis, host of the "Inside Detroit" radio show on WCBH, Ron Scott from the Detroit Coalition Against Police Brutality, who supports Godbee, and FOX 2's Charlie LeDuff, who broke the story on Tuesday.

Plus, Charlie Langton took "Let It Rip" on the road and asks people whether it is ever a good idea to date someone you work with.
