Braselton police say they've made an arrest in a bizarre case of alleged road rage. They say a Buford man pulled out a tire iron after he believed he had been cut off in traffic by another driver.
According to police, Mark Patterson damaged the victim's car using a tire iron after he allegedly rammed the car on the highway. Police reviewed evidence including 911 calls and cell phone video, and now he faces several charges.
Police tell FOX 5 they got a 911 call came from a scared driver on Interstate 85 near Braselton last Sunday afternoon. He told the operator his Lexus was the target of an enraged driver in a Toyota Sequoia. Then, while the driver was on the phone with the 911 dispatcher, his vehicle was hit by the SUV.
Assistant Police Chief Lou Solis told FOX 5 Patterson was the aggressor, and that his teenage daughter recorded jumbled cell phone after both cars pulled over. With both vehicles on the side of the highway, Solis says at one point the victim strongly believed Patterson had a riffle. Instead, police say it was a tire iron, and that Patterson allegedly started hitting the victim's car with it.
According to Solis, there was damage done to both vehicles in the incident. Patterson is faces felony aggravated assault and other charges. He was released on bond on Monday.
No one was available for comment at Patterson's home in Buford. The victim lives in North Carolina, but he told FOX 5 he did not want to comment on the incident and instead simply wants to move on.
