SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (MyFox Detroit) -
The Tigers received claps and cheers as they got off the plane this morning.
Many, cheering for Justin Verlander's performance on the mound.
Al Avilla, Alex's father, says, "We had a good gut feeling that he was going to give us a great and it was probably one of the best games we've ever seen him pitch. He just did an outstanding job. He really came through for us."
Fans are also in awe of his performance.
Ash Parekh shares, "I was up all night long watching him. And every pitch he was making I was saying, ‘Oh my God,' what a great performance he had. And 22 strikeouts? That's a record. I couldn't believe it. Unbelievable. They're going to go all the way I think."
The Tigers landed shortly before 8AM, racking up a long morning after an even longer night. Despite a lack of sleep, former Tigers' great Al Kaline is confident they'll come through.
"The teams come together right at the right time. We've got great pitching, and looks like maybe our hitting is coming around. So things are looking really good right now," he told us.
Tigers reliever, Joaquin Benoit, says he feels the lack of sleep but is happy to be moving onto the next round.
As Tigers General Manager explains, "There are four teams left after tonight. And so we'll be in a position that we've got a one in four chance of making it to the World Series and win that world championship."
