Advocates for victims of domestic violence are calling San Francisco a "national embarrassment" after its controversial Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi was given back his job.
Mirkarimi was suspended without pay last march when he admitted bruising his wife's arm during an argument. He then pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count of false imprisonment and was put on probation for three years.
San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee wanted Mirkarimi permanently fired for professional misconduct .. But the board of supervisors voted to reinstate him…and yesterday he was back in his office.
