Off-duty Detroit Public Schools officer shoots intruder at mom's home

DETROIT (WJBK) - His family is calling him a hero.
An off-duty Detroit Public Schools officer was questioned by Detroit Police after he shot a man who broke into his mother's home on the city's southwest side.
Sources close to the family tell FOX 2's Roop Raj the intruder was his sister's ex-boyfriend who broke into the home on Clark Street early Friday morning with intentions of attacking his former girlfriend and her mother.
Knowing her son lived down the street, the mother frantically called for help. The off-duty officer, who is fully deputized, responded and opened fire on the intruder, striking him in the chest.
The intruder is said to be in temporary serious condition at a local hospital. No other injuries were reported.
DPS spokesman Steve Wasko says the officer, whose name has not been released, has been placed on paid administrative leave pending further investigation.
