L.A. District Attorney Race

Posted: Updated:

Jackie Lacey, a Democrat, is already familiar with the job: She is the Chief Deputy District Attorney -- the Number 2 position. She is facing off against Deputy District Attorney Alan Jackson, a 17-year veteran of the office.

Jackson is, perhaps, most famous for prosecuting Phil Spector. He enjoys the backing from former Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan.

Lacey, meanwhile, has the backing from several prominent leaders, including outgoing District Attorney Steve Cooley, Sheriff Lee Baca and law enforcement agencies.

If elected, she would be the first woman and first African-American to be the chief prosecutor for the county.
