Republican Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack is running against Raul Ruiz, a Hispanic Democrat in the 36th Congressional District, which includes Cathedral City.

Mack, who previously represented the 45th district until redistricting placed her in the 36th district, has been in Congress since 1998, taking over for her husband, Sonny Bono, who passed away.

Ruiz, a physician, is the son of farmworkers and grew up in Coachella.
