Alan Lowenthal, a Democrat, is facing off against Gary DeLong in the newly-redistricted 47th Congressional District, which includes Long Beach.

Lowenthal is a staple in California politics: He is currently a state senator, and previously served in the State Assembly.

DeLong has been a member of the Long Beach City Council since 2006.
