Young Jerry Hopes To Someday Protect And Serve

'To Protect and to Serve' is the motto of the Los Angeles Police Department, and it is a motto that this week's Wednesday's Child hopes to personally adopt when he is older.  Jeremias (1997), who likes to be called Jerry, is a well-mannered and goal-oriented youth who wants to be a police officer one day and is already part of the Police Explorer program.  We decided to give Jerry's dream a boost by setting up a private meeting for him with LA's "Top Cop", LAPD Chief Charlie Beck.  To make the occasion even more memorable, Jerry arrived at Police Headquarters via motorcade courtesy of Capt. Ann Young, commanding officer of LAPD's Central Traffic Division.

Jerry likes to keep himself busy, so he typically hits the books and completes his homework as soon as he gets home from school.  In his free time when he isn't at the Police Explorer program, he enjoys music and sports.  During his personal time with Jerry, Chief Beck tells Jerry that there are many things in life one can't be in control of but one thing that someone can be in control of is his own character – adding that character is a big deciding factor in the selection process for new recruits.

In his own words, Jerry says he hopes to find a forever family who will accept him unconditionally and who would encourage him to continue on his path towards a career in law enforcement. While Jerry has a career goal in mind and has started taking steps towards such a goal, he still has a long way to go before he is ready "to protect and to serve" and he needs the support of a permanent family to help him reach his goals.

This week it's Wednesday's Child that is putting out an "all points bulletin" to help find a supportive family interested in adopting Jerry so that he can reach for his dream and perhaps one day truly adopt the motto "To Protect and to Serve" his community
