(CNS) Sheriff's detectives sought the public's help today identifying a man who sexually assaulted a woman aboard a Metro bus.
According to the Sheriff's Department, an 18-year-old woman with the mental capacity of a 10-year-old said she was raped Wednesday on a public bus. Detectives said the victim and suspect boarded the bus at the same time at La Cienega and Jefferson boulevards. The suspect followed her to the rear of the bus, where he assaulted her.
A witness - who was the only other passenger on the bus - tried unsuccessfully to get the bus driver's attention, according to the Sheriff's Department. The suspect got off the bus at Sepulveda and Slauson.
The suspect was described as between 18 and 20 years old, about 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, with short cropped hair and a dark complexion. He was wearing jeans and a hooded sweatshirt with narrow horizontal stripes.
Detectives said they also want to track down the witness aboard the bus. Anyone with information was asked to call the sheriff's Special Victims Bureau at (562) 946-8282.
