All things Twilight obsession for one woman

ATLANTA -

The Twilight books have been a publishing sensation, and the four movies have raked in more than $2.5 billion worldwide. The latest installment in the series hits theaters nationwide on Friday. For ‘Twihard' fan Katie Thornton, she will surely be the first in line.

Thornton's knowledge, passion for and admitted obsession with Twilight is mind-blowing. Her love of all things Twilight started quite innocently -- with her love for her grandfather.

"My grandpa got sick. I was spending 8-10 hours a day sitting in the room with him and I got bored. I read all four books in four days," said Thornton.

As it turned out, when Thornton closed the fourth book, Twilight the movie was opening in sold out theatres nationwide. That same night, she met her future husband Michael, and they married on August 13, 2011 -- the same day as Twilight's lead characters Bella Swan and Edward Cullen.

"I walked down the aisle to Clare de Lune, which is a very popular part of the Twilight saga," said Thornton.

She became known as the "Twilight Girl."

She's memorized the lines to all of the movies, and that certainly qualifies her as a Twilight fan. And a room in her home is dedicated to her Twilight obsession.

"I started collecting T-shirts, books, bookmarks, nothing too bad. I started getting more things. It took over the corner of the room then moved down the wall," explained Thornton.

Authentic costumes, action figures, autographs, wristbands, rare pieces from the series, even bandages and gift cards adorn the room. It also is the guest bedroom.

Thornton says if people are uncomfortable with her Twilight fascination, so be it.

"I'm proud of who I am. If people have a problem with that, that's their issue. Everybody's got their thing. My thing just happens to be Twilight."

Happens when her thing becomes the thing of the past? She says she will just pack up her collection, and later when she has children, she'll pull it back out again and share with them the things mom used to love.

She says hopefully she'll go from being the "Twilight Girl" to being the really cool mom.
