Police say a violent criminal on the run was caught on Sunday.

Phoenix Police Sgt. Steve Martos says 35-year-old Angel Padilla was caught and arrested at a home near 91st Avenue and McDowell Road. He is wanted for kidnapping, shooting at a police officer and assault.

Police haven't released how they found him or why he was in the area.

Padilla was under investigation for two home invasions when he allegedly opened fire on an officer. He's a suspect in a total of four break-ins.

He was on the run for almost a month, but police say they knew he was still in town.

Police say Padilla fired his rifle over and over again and then took off in a car with his girlfriend, held against her will inside. Her kids called 911.

Padilla allegedly kidnapped his girlfriend because he was upset after they broke up.

Eventually he let her go and she wasn't injured.

Before the kidnapping, police say Padilla broke into two homes. Terrified families sat inside while their money was stolen. In the days after the officer involved shooting, there were two more home invasions.

One of the home invasions happened right across the street from West Phoenix High School.

Police say Padilla randomly picked houses with innocent victims around the valley because he wanted their money or car.

Padilla is being considered an "investigative lead" in a deadly burglary that happened earlier this year, police said. They also believe Padilla has ties to the Mexican mafia.
