A Thanksgiving-time tradition in Los Angeles is the kick-off of "Downtown on Ice" signaling the start of the holiday season. And this season we took Holly (2000) along to test out her "skating legs".
Holly likes to swim and recently became a junior lifeguard (an accomplishment Holly is very proud of), but as she had never before tried her skills at ice skating, she was joined by figure-skating legend Tai Babilonia (and Snoopy!) for her first skate.
Holly did not hesitate to lace up her skates and have Tai and Snoopy lend her a hand. Just as in life, Holly discovered that it's initially easier to gain and maintain balance when you have someone supporting and encouraging you.
Like most kids in foster care, Holly has had a rougher go of it than some because she has some special needs. Holly has autism and requires some special attention, but we are confident that her inquisitive and endearing personality will find her skating into the hearts of a special family that can give her the loving attention, consistency and structure to be a success.
