TORRANCE (CNS) - A man in his 80s fatally shot a couple in a common area of a high-rise apartment building for seniors in Torrance, then fatally shot himself, police said today.
The shooting in Golden West Tower at 3510 Maricopa St. shortly after noon, Torrance police Sgt. Robert Watt said.
A lobby receptionist saw the shooting, ABC7 reported.
Watt said described the shooter as a Golden West resident in his 80s.
"Right now the big thing is motive -- why did this happen?" he said.
Police were withholding the names of the dead until their next of kin could be notified.
The 14-story building was evacuated in the immediate aftermath of the shooting, Watt said.
