Black Friday fanatics camped out for deals

Posted: Updated:

Untie the apron. Put on the elastic-waisted pants and comfy shoes. Then warm up the credit cards. Black Friday shopping is under way -- even though it's still Thursday.

The leftovers may not have even made it to the fridge before the Christmas shopping season began. Retailers are hoping shoppers will want to work off their Thanksgiving dinners by shopping tonight, beating tomorrow morning's crowds. One trade group says about 17 percent of shoppers plan to do just that.

Some folks didn't even wait until after dinner, they started camping in front of a Best Buy store in Avondale on Monday. We met up with some Best Buy campers waiting to get their hands on a 40 inch TV for $179, down from around $500.

As of 6 p.m., more than 100 people were in line at the Best Buy at 99th Ave and McDowell. Some people at the front of the line have been there since Monday.

FOX 10's Kelly Hessedal talked to some Black Friday fanatics at Best Buy.

At Toys 'R Us in Paradise Valley, FOX 10's Britt Moreno went on a shop-along with a mom. She knew just what to go for when the doors opened at 8 p.m.

There, people were standing in line since 4:30 p.m.
