Bargain hunters shopped-‘til-they-dropped on Friday as they hit the local stores and malls.
Many Black Friday sales started early this year and shoppers responded with plenty of enthusiasm.
One particular mall opened at midnight and nearly 24 hours later, the crowds of shoppers show no signs of letting up.
On Black Friday, it's not just about how much you save, but how early you get up.
"I started six in the morning. I took a nap in the car!" said Sequoyia Young.
13-year-old Sequoia and her sister showed no signs of tiring as they shopped with mom.
"I think it's fun," said Young. "The rush, the big crowds -- the sales."
But for some a 6:00 a.m. start was considered late this year.
Last night at 8:00 p.m. at the Toys R Us in Times Square, it opened two hours earlier than it opened last year and plenty of people showed up.
A few Blocks away and a few hours later, Macy's opened its doors to throngs of shoppers at midnight.
At the Queens Center Mall long lines continued into the evening. A family from Barbados makes an annual tradition of traveling to New York City for their holiday shopping. Black Friday shopper Anne Lowe was asked if they have this in Barbados.
"Not this crazy they don't!" said Lowe.
But the craziness and crowds come with the territory on the busiest shopping day of the year.
This year Black Friday sales are expected to be up over last year. The National Retail Federation will release its official numbers on Sunday.
