A Peoria man who admitted he traveled twice to southern California to have sex with a 14-year-old boy was sentenced Monday to 12 years in prison.

43-year-old Michael Killala will spend 144 months in prison.

He met the victim on the internet in 2011, when the boy was 14 and living in Corona, Calif. Killala visited the boy in December 2011 and they had a sexual encounter, according to court documents. He again visited the boy in January 2012.

During their second meeting, Killala allegedly took him to a hotel and gave the boy vodka before the sexual conduct. He was arrested as he was checking out of his hotel.

He pleaded guilty to two counts of possession of child porn. Among the images in his possession were two images of the victim during their sexual encounter.

On Killala's phone were 3,000 text messages between himself and the victim, as well as proof of a relationship with another teenage boy with whom he exchanged sexually explicit photographs.

The victim's mother testified Monday that Killala "preyed on our son for his own perverse sexual gratification."

She said that her son was "severely traumatized," and that he suffered from debilitating anxiety, flashbacks, overwhelming shame, anger, loss of sleep, nightmares, severe depression and fear that Killala was going to kill him.
