DETROIT (WJBK) -- Detroit firehouses are expected to be fully stocked today.
Last week, FOX 2's Maurielle Lue reported that firefighters were forced to buy their own essentials for work, including soap and toilet paper.
"Why are you ignoring the basic needs of your firefighters. You can't give us toilet paper? The city is not that broke," said Dan McNamara, president of the Detroit Firefighter Association.
Detroit Fire Commissioner Donald Austin says stations will get all the supplies they need by Wednesday afternoon.
Austin says the shortage was caused in part by a city vendor that had not been paid. He says the issue has been resolved.
Austin also said his department was to implement changes to the purchasing and inventory systems that track supplies to ensure that each station is properly stocked.
