DEARBORN, Mich. (WJBK) -- A maintenance van at DTE Energy's substation in Dearborn caught fire Thursday morning.  To put out the flames, all the circuits had to be de-energized causing 4,000 customers to be without power.

"We looked out the window and saw the smoke and that's when I called 911, and then when I hung up, the flames started shooting out and then the black smoke started," said Victor Rouse, manager at 1-800-FLOWERS.

Several businesses were without power.  Men's Warehouse remained open so that customers could pick up their suits.  Westborn Market was waiting on a generator and taking steps to keep the food from spoiling.

There were huge traffic backups along Michigan Avenue due to street lights being out.

By 2:30 p.m., DTE said power had been restored to 2,000 customers.  The rest should be back on by late in the evening.
