A community assistance group is devastated by the theft of Christmas toys that were meant for needy children. L.I.F.T Community Development organizers say most of the toys it had collected for the past year were stolen from a storage unit.
CEO Ann McKee got a call on Friday morning telling her someone had broken into the storage unit.
College Park City Councilman Joe Carn, who supports the organization's work, says the group has been providing toys to the community for seven years, and he thinks for this to happen to them is the "worst kind of evil."
The organization says it has planned three toy giveaways for 300 needy families. The first is scheduled for December 20 at the Godby Recreation Center on Godby Road.
L.I.F.T. Community Development was established in 2004, and they also run a food pantry and counseling services, along with other assistance. McKee says she hopes the community will pitch in and help local children have a good Christmas despite what has happened.
Fulton County police are investigating the theft, and Lift hopes surveillance video from the storage facility may help them solve the case.
If you'd like to help replenish the stolen toys, call L.I.F.T. Community Development at (404) 762-5600, or the College Park City Government at (404) 669-3755.
