Indicted State Rep. La Shawn Ford: I'm innocent

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Newly-indicted State Rep. La Shawn Ford is fighting to keep his job in Springfield.

Ford was indicted on federal bank fraud charges Thursday, but he says the allegations have nothing to do with his work as a lawmaker and he wants to stay in the general assembly.

Ford told FOX 32's Tisha Lewis that he's innocent and his money problems are a result of the real estate collapse.

Federal prosecutors say Ford told a bank a $500,000 line of credit would be used to rehab real estate properties, but instead it was spent on things like car payments and a casino bill.
