Assembly considers portable bet, lottery privacy

Posted: Updated:

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — Final votes will be taken in the Assembly on bills allowing portable betting devices at horse racing tracks and letting lottery winners remain anonymous for a year.

The mobile gaming bill allows betting on wireless devices at race tracks. A similar bill allowing the devices at Atlantic City's casinos has already been approved.

The mobile devices could be used only on the grounds of the state's four horse tracks.

The lottery bill lets winners retain their privacy for a year.

Current law permits the state Lottery Commission to release a winner's name, hometown and they amount they won. Amendments to the bill clarify that state agencies can still share information with each other on lottery winners when trying to collect unpaid child support, student loans or debts to state agencies.
