Fulton County is home to more registered sex offenders that anywhere else in Georgia. Now the Fulton County Sheriff's Office has unveiled a new internet site where residents can see on a map the registered sex offenders living near them.
More than 2,000 sex offenders are registered in Fulton County. However, the sheriff's department says many don't actually live there but are routine visitors. Sgt. Hector Caballero said that the county registers those that work or go to school in the area. The Offender Watch Program will show where they are too.
The program shows a map of were the registered sex offenders live in Fulton County. Many other Georgia counties offer the same program.
The program allows citizens to register to receive alerts about the status of sex offenders, according to Lt. Col. Peter Anresen of the Fulton County Sheriff's Office.
The program is free to use. The sheriff's department says it can also help investigate sex crimes. They say by typing in the address of a crime, they can then get a better picture of the registered sex offenders who live nearby.
