Police have a warning for valley business owners after two check cashing stores were robbed within 24 hours.
A hole in the ceiling shows how two robbers broke into Ace Cash Express near Arizona Avenue and Ray Road Wednesday morning.
"The suspects in this case were able to cut through the roof and then they came down between the roof and the drop ceiling or the suspended ceiling inside the building and they waited there until the clerk came and opened the business up yesterday morning around 9 a.m.," said Sgt. Joe Favazzo of the Chandler Police Department.
Favazzo adds that the suspect dropped from the ceiling when the clerk started setting up shop.
"That's when she was in the back..she heard the crashing sound of the ceiling tiles coming down inside the front of the business."
The men assaulted and even handcuffed the female worker.
"It was just a senseless act of violence on their part to injure this person who was offering no resistance whatsoever," said Favazzo.
Chandler P.D. is now working with Phoenix police officers because the agencies think the same suspects robbed a Check Smart on 20th Avenue and Indian School Road on Tuesday. Officers were seen investigating an entry point on the roof and a pair of handcuffs hanging in a tree.
With the two robberies happening across the valley from each other, police don't know where these suspects will strike next, but they're confident that they will.
Favazzo says, "These guys..we expect that they're going to do this again and we've already witnessed that they're willing to use violence and without being provoked."
The clerk who was assaulted is doing okay and both businesses are open again.
