SANTA ANA (CNS) - Police today were looking for a hit-and-run driver who struck a 7-year-old girl, leaving her hospitalized with serious head and other injuries.

The girl was struck by a speeding black SUV about 5 p.m. Tuesday in an unmarked crosswalk in the 400 block of South Birch Street, said Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna. The youngster, who was alone at the time, was dragged about 15 to 30 feet by the SUV, the corporal said.

She was rushed to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana with injuries to her head and body, but is expected to survive, Bertagna said.
