Volunteers wrap presents for injured service members

PHOENIX -

Volunteers showed up Thursday to take part in something called "Arizona Heroes to Hometowns." It's a holiday program devoted to a great cause.

We're talking about a group that was started to help injured military members as they adjust to civilian life again, and that includes helping their families.

An army of Santa's helpers are volunteering at the National Guard armory in Phoenix, wrapping hundreds of presents, all donated to help injured service members from Arizona.

"I have probably 20 to 25, 30 families that this will help if not more," says Kathy Pearce of AZ Heroes to Hometowns.

Kathy Pearce started the organization after her son was seriously injured in Iraq in 2004.

"We were appreciative of those that thought about us when we were having the struggles with our family - and my son going through surgery after surgery. We just want to give back and let those that are coming back now know that we do care and we're there for them."

The helpers came from Bank of America, wrapping and sorting presents to make sure Arizona's heroes and their families have a merry Christmas.

"Something that we feel very strongly about making sure that we're giving back in our communities - and you know these guys have done amazing things for our country and we just want to make sure that we give back to them," says Tiffany Caldwell of Bank of America.

"From the service member to the families to the kids - it's for all of them. You know, so they can have a Christmas and know their community still cares and we're here to help assist them in that transition back," says Pearce.

The presents are still being collected right now at valley Honda dealerships. If you'd like to donate you can drop something off until December 16th.
