It's a holiday tradition in many homes. Assembling and decorating a gingerbread house is a fun family activity that anyone can do, and the experts at Henri's Bakery had some tips on how make the perfect gingerbread house.
Since 1929, Henri's Bakery has been one of Atlanta's top real estate brokers but we're talking the edible kind of estate. Bakers here create both ready-made gingerbread mansions and construction kits.
"Putting it together is, of course, it takes a little bit of skill. But most kids can do it," said Pastry Chef Jean-Luc Verbist.
Inside a typical kit is the gingerbread, the candy and the glue -- otherwise known as icing. Like any good house, building goes from the ground up.
"Well, you start with your base. You know, with any house, it has a foundation. Once you have these two parts together, you're kind of okay, because they sit up. When you get this far, I would leave this sit for five to six hours, overnight, because when you're going put the roof on, the roof is heavy," said Verbist.
After that key six hours, the fun really begins. Decorating is totally up to you, and can be as fancy as stylish squiggles, or easy as a cheap ploy for a raise. What candy you use to decorate your cake is your call!
