11-year-old makes it her mission that every needy kid gets a toy

PHOENIX -

Most kids this time of year are excited about Christmas gifts, but it's usually about the gifts they are receiving -- not giving.

For this 11-year-old Phoenix girl, the items on her Christmas wish list are for less fortunate families who may not have a Christmas at all.

Barbies, board games, Cabbage Patch dolls. There are enough toys in this house to make 11-year-old Madison Nightingale ecstatic this Christmas -- but all these toys aren't for her.

"I helped over 500 individuals, I went to the shelter and it was amazing," says Madison.

Madison collected all these toys -- plus other household items and money donations for the U-Mom New Day Center, a shelter that helps homeless families get back on their feet.

Her mission started last year when she was inspired by a song.

"I was listening to Justin Bieber and I heard one of his songs called Pray and it told about how they woke up without toys and stuff."

"It's in the papers, it's on the TV, it's everywhere that I go. Children are crying, soldiers are dying, some people are dying, some people don't have a home," read the lyrics.

"I thought about all the children who didn't get something for Christmas," says Madison. "So I went to Walmart and used half my Christmas money, I bought them whole bunch of toys."

"Madison has always been a strong headed child as long as I remember and when she gets something in her head she accomplishes it every single time," says mom Josee Nightingale.

"She looked at different shelters and started educating herself. It really bothers her that these people are going to wake up and not have anything on Christmas."

But now because of Madison -- they will.

"I'm just hoping that I could help even more people that I did last year. I don't mind doing it, I enjoy doing it," says Madison.

So far her donations have come from family and friends, but she's also received donations from small businesses, and even Walmart donated a gift card.

She's delivering all the items to the shelter this Saturday.
