Storm brings snow, rain to Arizona

Posted: Updated:
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. -

Much of northern and eastern Arizona is under winter storm advisories or warnings as the first major of storm of the season barrels into the state and a second follows on its heels.

The National Weather Service says the first should move in Thursday night and drop heavy snow along and south of the Mogollon Rim, and three-quarters of an inch of rain in southwestern and central Arizona.

Interstate 17 south of Flagstaff and parts of Interstate 40 will be slick and snow-covered, and back country roads might become impassable.

Arizona Snowbowl could get between 1 and 2 feet, while 4 to 8 inches are expected near the university. Flagstaff was also plagued with strong winds on Thursday.

Forecasters in Flagstaff say another storm moves in on Saturday after a brief break. That one will be stronger in northern Arizona than the southern part of the state.

As for the valley, there's 100% chance of rain. Scattered showers will roll in sometime after nightfall into the overnight hours.

The Tucson area also expects rain and snow.
