Tripp Halstead's parents attend fundraiser

BUFORD, Ga -

The parents of 2-year-old Tripp Halstead enjoyed rare moments of relaxation at a fundraiser for their son on Friday night.  Their son captured the hearts of many after he was hit in the head by a falling tree limb at his daycare center and left with severe injuries.

Stacy and Bill Halsted told FOX 5's George Franco that fundraisers like the one held Friday make it easier for them to stay strong for Tripp as he continues on his long road to recovery.  The couple relaxed in a dry $10,000 hot tub—the top prize in a raffle held at Georgia Spa in Buford.  The funds raised benefit Tripp, who was injured in late October.

"He looks amazing now with the skull back in place and there's no more indentation from that," said Bill Halstead of his son.

Bill Halstead says doctors at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite have re-attached a portion of Tripp's skull after swelling in his brain went down. On Friday morning, they decided against placing a shunt in his brain, but it may still be needed.

"It would go behind his ear and run down his neck into his stomach, and whenever fluids rebuild in his brain and the body doesn't absorb it like you or I would have, it would just drain into his stomach," his dad explained.

The tickets were going fast at $10 each.  The three prizes—the hot tub, a Big Green Egg barbeque, and a limo ride—were great incentives, but most people said they were really there just to help out the family.

"They give me strength when I get down, and they help me to think positive and just be strong for my baby," said Stacy Halstead.

Georgia Spa says they raised $15,000 toward Tripp's medical expenses on Friday night.  Another fundraiser is scheduled for Saturday morning at 11 a.m. at the Infinity Center on Stafford Street in Winder.
