Last week the U.S. Secretary of Transportation, Ray LaHood, begged Congress for more federal funding for California's high-speed rail project. He went on record, in front of cameras, admitting that without more federal dollars, this project is doomed. Secretary La Hood, said he won't be able to attract private investors unless the feds release more cash.
Well, it's about time we heard the truth about High Speed Rail.
For months, we've been asking the rail authority where are you going to get the money to complete this project? We know that last June the House Transportation Committee voted against any further funding for the California High Speed Rail project. Now, just a few weeks ago, this same committee re-affirmed there earlier decision and told La Hood, absolutely no more money for this plan. But still, Dan Richard, the chairperson of the Ca Rail Authority, has said he'll go to Congress and ask for more money. He said, they'll give him the money when they see how great the plan is.
Well, Congress doesn't think the plan is even worth funding and even Secretary LaHood wasn't able to convince them. In fact, recently there were several congressmen from California who sit on the House Transportation Committee, stating in effect, it's time to stop this project.
So what's next?
If they can't get more money, then the High Speed Rail Authority will end up spending billions, tearing up the Central Valley, in a big make work project which they know they can't complete.
In my opinion, it's time to cut our losses and pull the plug on this project.
