Frat brother: I paid Kilpatrick's father thousands of dollars - Los Angeles Local News, Weather, and Traffic

In the Kilpatrick corruption trial, another day, another frat brother turned rat brother.  However, this former college buddy testified he didn't give money to the mayor.  The dough he paid went to Kwame Kilpatrick's father, Bernard.

Marc Andre Cunningham testified that he still loves the Kilpatrick family and thinks Kwame Kilpatrick did a great job as mayor.

However, the Kilpatricks might not return that love after Cunningham told jurors he handed Bernard Kilpatrick thousands of dollars at a barbershop in the basement of city hall.

Cunnignham also testified that he hooked the mayor up with disposable cell phones after a reporter visited Cunningham at his home and told him the feds had tapped his phone.

The reporter who came to Cunningham's house that afternoon was me.

Defense attorney John Shea pounded Cunningham on his claims he had to pay Bernard Kilpatrick to get the city's pension boards to approve $30 million in deals.

Cunningham admitted that the Kilpatricks did not demand the money, and he said Bernard Kilpatrick provided some, but not much, consultation for all that cash.

At times, Cunningham got squirrely.  He apparently didn't realize that during a break that his microphone was on when he said, "Man, this is (expletive) up."  Another time he started chuckling.

"I couldn't tell whether he was laughing at me.  That's why I asked him, 'Do I amuse you?'" said Shea.  "I think probably it was nervousness."

Cunningham was the last witness jurors will see for two weeks, but at least one defense attorney doesn't think he was put on the stand Friday to give jurors something to think about over the long holiday break.

"We talked to the government about what its chapter order was going to be and what its witness order was going to be and there was no deviation," Shea said.
