Walgreens stays open for last-minute shoppers

Posted: Updated:

17 million people are last-minute shoppers.  Most of them manage to finish on Christmas Eve, but there are some stragglers still hitting the stores on Christmas.

Luckily, at least one neighborhood store stays open for them.

Where do procrastinators go when most of the stores are closed on Christmas Day?

"I'm sneaking into Walgreens..they have great gifts and discount prices."

And the drug store is open.  It's also busy.  Larita White is not the only one here.

"I'm picking up some last minute things for a couple of people I forgot," she said.

The neighborhood drug store off 51st Avenue and Indian School Road has something for everyone.

"..I have perfumes for my oldest daughter..some slippers."

Gabriela Mendoza's husband is in the hospital, so there was no time to shop until today.

"I wanted to come and get something for the kids and thankfully, they are open.  I went to two different Wal-Marts and they were closed..oh my God, I need to get them something," she said.

A lot of people needed to pick up last-minute gifts.

"I am buying for a couple..my nieces and nephews..some toys," said Wendell Moore.

Not every shopper was here to buy last-minute gifts.  Some were here to purchase batteries.

They carry them in all shapes and sizes. A relief for the Monteveras family.  They have them now and are heading home.

According to retail studies, 30 percent of last-minute shoppers head to drug stores that usually stock items like gift cards from dozens of retailers.
