If you think you got a great deal during your holiday shopping, would you be mad if you bought the same item as a friend, but they actually paid much less than you did?
A Wall Street Journal investigation says it probably happened.
Did they find a deal you missed, or were you just in the wrong zip code?
The WSJ study found that prices aren't the same, not even in the same areas. Two woman, a few miles apart, searched to buy the same items online. For all of the items, the prices were different.
Retail expert Jeff Green says sometimes it's because you're closer to
the store's competitor. They'll lower the price so you'll buy it online
now instead of driving down the street.
Many believe the Internet was suppose to level the pricing field but that's not the case.
Green says there are no rules; prices can vary anytime, anywhere.
He says to get the best deals, price comparison is key. Look up the differences online, in stores or with the help of smartphone apps.
