DETROIT (WJBK) -- Brian Smith, Senior and his son were up before the sunrise clearing away the snow, but they didn't stop at their house or even their neighbor's house. They practically did the entire neighborhood.

"We just get out here and start and we just keep going," said Brian Smith, Senior.

Father and son make quite the snow shoveling duo. Working side by side, they go block by block to help others.

"I know most people don't like doing it," said Brian Smith, Junior. "And then they open the blinds and they say, 'Oh my god, it's done!' Those Smiths."

Before most neighbors had their first cup of coffee, the Smiths already had their sidewalks clear. They hit house after house along Washburn Street on Detroit's west side and didn't stop there.

"The whole block, we went to the side street, went one block over, went towards Wyoming and did a couple of houses on Wyoming and the church, of course," Brian Smith, Senior said.

Jewel Andrews was so grateful to the snow shoveling fairies she called Fox 2 wanting to say thanks, but didn't know who they were. She wasn't the only one grateful for their hard work and kind hearts.

"My dilemma was who am I going to get to do my snow, and then I looked out and I [saw] that young man and I was like, 'Oh thank you, Jesus.' I really appreciate that, I do, from the bottom of my heart," said Debra Beard.

"I saw him out this morning and he was shoveling everybody's area. I thought that was really nice and I didn't get a chance to thank him. Thank you, thank you very much. I really appreciate that because you didn't have to go out of your way to do that. That was something that was really neighborly and really, really kind," said Debbie White.

For more than four hours, the father and son team shoveled away. It was exhausting work, yet also very rewarding.

"That's all the reward I need just [knowing] everybody appreciates it," said Brian Smith, Senior.
