The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) says it stopped a passenger trying to go through a checkpoint with a switchblade at Newark Liberty International Airport on Friday morning.
A spokesperson tweeted: "Perfect way to delay fellow passengers + get in trouble with law enforcement."
No other details on the passenger or incident were immediately available.
Just this week, it was reported that the TSA had confiscated more than 1,500 firearms alone at airport security checkpoints in 2012.
