CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
Scientists at the University of Connecticut said they plan to investigate the DNA of the gunman in Newtown elementary school shooting, Adam Lanza.
The state medical examiner was asked to do a complete analysis Lanza's DNA but they aren't looking for anything specific. The scientists said learning more about the 20-year-old who opened fire at Sandy Hook Elementary School could help them prevent future tragedies.
Geneticists said there are genetic components to mental illness, but there are many genes involved - not just a single gene or mutation.
Critics said the findings could be used against people with some of the same traits who pose no threat to society.
Lab results of Lanza's DNA are not expected for several weeks.
