The Peach Drop is an Atlanta New Year's Eve tradition, and for the 24th time, the metro area will ring in the New Year by watching a giant peach descend to the ground on Monday night.
Atlanta Underground is expected to be packed Monday evening with more than 100,000 people on hand at the event.
Workers have been planning for the New Year's Eve traditional event for months, and on Sunday they did a trial run of the drop. The peach takes a minute to descend to mark midnight and the ringing in of the New Year. The 800 pound fiberglass peach is held in place by aircraft cable.
Atlanta police say they will be out in full force among the crowd. Several roads will also be closed and anyone coming into the area will have to go through a security checkpoint. Because of that, police say you should travel light.
They say they will not be allowing pets, bags, backpacks, weapons, coolers, alcoholic beverages (alcoholic beverages will be made available for purchase on the property), picnic baskets, bikes, inline skates, skateboards or lawn chairs. (Click here for a complete list of prohibited items)
There will be plenty of activities to keep partygoers busy until the giant peach drops at midnight, including three stages of live entertainment, carnival rides, games and food.
