Thousands to attend Tallapoosa possum drop

Posted: Updated:

Some west Georgia residents were set to bring in the New Year watching a stuffed possum fall from the sky.

Organizers were scheduled to lower Spencer the possum from one of Tallapoosa's oldest downtown buildings.

Residents gathered on Monday evening to get a front row seat and to enjoy live music and food.

A group of friends started the possum drop in 2000.

Event organizers expected more than 4,000 people to celebrate the New Year at the possum drop.
