Gyms offer New Year's promotions to help you fulfill your resolution

It's the New Year – 2013. Time to kick off your new year's resolution. Losing weight and getting fit are two of the top resolutions.

Some valley gyms have already started to see a spike in new membership.

Did you know the best time to buy a gym membership is actually in December? But these first few months of the year are the busiest and most important for gyms.

"Every year at this time," says Mark Kopoian.

"Everyone comes in starts to work out," says Joel Mercado of Mountainside Fitness.

It's the New Year and that means more people working out, determined to stick to their new year's resolution.

"It takes work and commitment and I think internally, if they're committed to do it they can do it," says Kopoian.

Gyms around the valley are offering deals right now to get you to join.

"Currently we're running a special for zero enrollment," says Mercado.

Mountainside Fitness has a zero enrollment fee special and so does LA Fitness, Lifetime Fitness, and 24-Hour Fitness.

Planet Fitness is offering a $10 down, $10 a month deal. And most yoga and Pilates studios are offering big discounts on their monthly passes.

The mad rush typically ends in March. That's when 80-percent of people give up on their resolution.

"Best advice? Is obvious we talk about what is your goal. Think about your goal, see how fast you're going to get there, it's a consistency you want to do with your life, it's a life change," says Joel Mercado.

Experts say you should try to go to the gym regularly for at least 3 weeks. It takes 21 days to form a habit.
