Police say they shot and killed a suicidal man after he refused to put down his weapon on Saturday.
Officers went to a home in 15000 block of West Aster Dr. after they received a call saying 52-year-old Joel Byne was threatening to kill himself with a gun.
Police say they had lengthy negotiations with Byne, who was holding a rifle to his head and threatened to kill himself. They say Byne made comments to officers that he was going to get them to shoot him.
During negotiations, officers attempted to use a less lethal device to stop the man from shooting himself or others.
Byne continued refusing to put down the rifle and at some point during the negotiations, police shot the man.
The man was taken to a hospital in critical condition and was later pronounced dead.
Investigators are still collecting information.
