Authorities in Hall County have recovered the body of a 55-year-old man near Aqualand Marina Sunday morning.
A spokesperson for the Department of Natural Resources tells FOX 5 News that a man walking his dog along the shoreline just before 10:30 a.m. Sunday alerted authorities after finding an overturned Jon Boat and a debris field nearby.
Divers found the body of Robert A. Armistead, 55, of Hoschton in about 6 feet of water near the 6800 block of Lights Ferry Road. Family members told authorities that the man had set out on day-long fishing trip on Lake Lanier earlier that morning.
The cause of death has not yet been determined pending the outcome of an autopsy.
Officials are treating the investigation as a boating accident. Rangers with the Department of Natural Resources plan to reconstruct the scene to see if they can determine what happened.
