Delilah Is A Special Girl With Special Needs

It's a new year and the Wednesday's Child team is renewing our resolve to help any and all waiting children in the foster care system gain additional permanency.

While we often feature youth in exciting venues that highlight a child's interests, we strive never to stray from the social work principle of starting where a child is at – especially when we work with children with special medical and developmental needs.

So this week we present you Delilah (2001) – a delightful girl who smiles with style.  Delilah loves attention and enjoys engaging others in play.  She is diagnosed with Profound Mental Retardation, Encephalopathy, Blindness and Seizure Disorder and she requires G-tube feedings.

Delilah uses basic means of sensing and communicating with those around her and continues to flourish in her own way.  Delilah receives specialized services to help meet her needs and there is support and training available for families willing and available to incorporate children like Delilah into their home.

All of our children deserve permanence within a safe home where their needs can be met with patience and unconditional love.  Some children like Delilah require a family and environment capable of giving a bit more.  If you consider your family one capable of giving the extra care that Delilah needs and deserves.
